It is amazing to find a Zinfandel from the premium region of Lodi in central California for such a reasonable price. Not only that but it is a silver award winner at the prestigious Sommelier World Wine Awards!
The region is famous for exceptionally rich and ripe old-vine Zinfandel, which flourishes in the warm Mediterranean climate. Lodi is situated between San Francisco Bay and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, it is warm and sunny with cool sea breezes. This perfect climate allows winemakers to consistently craft quality wines while the diversity of the soils give added complexity. The grapes are selected from old vine Zinfandel vineyards and vinified in stainless steel tanks with a small amount of oak ageing. Old vine Zinfandels are from vines that are over 50 years old and are prized for their intense colour and balanced flavours.
Zinfandel is California’s flagship grape variety creating fruit forward and robust red wines. This is a textbook, big, bold and vibrant example, brimming with aromas of vanilla, cracked black pepper and dark damson fruit. On the palate this wine is round and fleshy, beautifully balanced with mellow tannins. Packed full of bright red fruit, black cherry and a lovely sweet spiciness with a lick of vanilla on the finish.
Zinfandel pairs well with almost any meat – lamb, poultry, pork, beef, game, and turkey. Try pairing with grilled pork chops or a roasted leg of lamb. The bright fruit in Zinfandel also works nicely with fragrant spiced dishes such as beef rendang curry.
